Synopsis. Giovanni Battista Scaroni, director of fascist youth organizations in Vicenza in the 1930s and landowner in Fascist-occupied Libya, was an amateur filmmaker.
“Family and Fatherland” explores Scaroni’s images, shot between 1934 and
1938: family moments, field trips, but also the journeys to the former Italian colonies in
Libya and rallies of the Fascist youth organization.
The film offers a disturbing private insight into the fascist regime at its height, where even the family footage conceals a certain propaganda inspiration.

Film made during art residency Re-Framing Home Movies promoted by Cinescatti film archive – Lab80 (Bergamo, Italy).

Festivals: Pesaro Film Festival (Italy) 2019.
